The Friends of the Collie River is nearing its goal to plant 10,000 seedlings along the banks of the river through winter.
The group held three planting days recently. About 20 students from Wilson Park planted reeds and rushes along the river on Tuesday, July 24, before workers from South32 Worsley Alumina had a planting day on Thursday, July 26.
More than 50 people turned up on Saturday, July 28 for another planting, with about 2400 seedlings planted.
Friends of the Collie River coordinator Donna Davies said the planting days had been ‘successful’, with more than 200 people taking part over the winter.
She said the group was hoping to have two more days – one with Premier Coal and another in conjunction with artist Sue Kalab – before the winter ends.
