The Collie Rotary Club held their ‘Spare a min, Give a tin’ campaign last month and were overwhelmed with the generosity of the town after receiving 13 full boxes of cans in total.
All the cans will be donated to the Collie Family Centre and Mick Murray’s office to help locals in need of emergency food relief.
Collie Family Centre manager Sharon Thompson said the amount of people that come to the centre for food relief is very sad.
“We assist on a daily basis, if not a couple times a day where individuals and families are looking for food assistance,” she said.
“We have information where they can go for food relief but it’s only available on certain days and it is usually at the end of the week. People are in crisis situations over the weekend and are usually at their lowest point.”
