Collie Police are investigating a considerable number of burglaries targeting houses, sheds and vehicles across town over the last week.
On September 14, offenders gained entry to a property on Fawdon Way by smashing a rear window.
Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said the house had been ransacked and items including a safe and medications had been taken.
The burglary occurred on the same day that a property on Jones Street was broken into while the occupant was at work, with money taken.
Properties on Wallsend Street and Atkinson Street North were also broken in to around September 13, although nothing appeared to be taken.
There was also another attempted burglary at a property on Evans Street on September 13, but Senior Sergeant Soutar said the offenders were thwarted by the homeowner’s alarm system.
He said the offenders attempted to enter through a side laundry door and activated the alarm system. An off-duty police officer heard the alarm and by the time they had reached the property, the offenders had fled.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said the incident showed that having an alarm system was a good way to deter offenders from breaking in.
Police are also looking for information about the theft of a caravan from a property on Wellington Dam Road.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said a white and maroon Roadstar caravan had been taken sometime between September 15 and 16.
It was the second time that items had been stolen from the property over the last couple of weeks.
Police are also looking for information about two cars that were stolen over the past week. Senior Sergeant Soutar said one was taken from the Collie Hospital car park while the other was stolen in the industrial area.
Police charged a 29-year-old Collie woman after she was allegedly caught shoplifting from Coles on Monday.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said police had received a report that a woman had stolen food items from the supermarket and had used CCTV to track her back to the Collie Hospital, where she was charged.
He said the offence was one of 62 reports police had attended over the week.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said police had been focusing on driving-related offences and had seized three separate vehicles over the past week after finding the respective drivers were unlicensed.
Finally, Senior Sergeant Soutar invited the community to commemorate the lives of police officers who have lost their lives while on duty at a Police Remembrance Day ceremony at the police station on Saturday, September 29.
