The Shire of Collie annual sportsperson of the year awards which recognise the achievements of individual players, sporting teams and volunteers will be held on Friday, November 30 at the Collie Italian and Sporting Club.
Shire of Collie councillors voted unanimously for the award presentation night to run with a similar format to last year but with some changes.
In 2017, the Sport Awards presentation evening was held at the Collie Eagles Football Club and had approximately 80 people attend.
Women’s footballer Philipa Seth was the guest speaker for the event and the event was alcohol-free. This year’s guest speaker will be Winter Paralympian Shaun Pianta.
Additionally, the Collie Underwater Hockey Club has been invited to provide a static display to celebrate its 50-year anniversary.
Last year’s JL Mumme Medal for Collie’s sportsperson of the year was taken out by woodchopper and greyhound trainer Grant Campbell.
Emily Antonovich took out the young sportsperson of the year for her achievements on the hockey field, while Annabelle Biffin won the special achievement award for her work as an underwater hockey umpire and Paul Reuben won the volunteer of the year award for his work with the Collie Junior Cricket Club.
To nominate someone for the awards nomination forms can be found at the Shire of Collie office, Roche Park, the library or online at www.collie.wa.gov.au/ and must be returned by 4pm on Friday, October 26.
