Two Collie men are ‘lucky to be alive’ after being involved in a head-on crash on the Coalfields Highway west of Allanson in the early hours of Monday morning.
Collie Police Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said the RAC Rescue helicopter had been deployed to airlift a 56-year-old man to hospital in Bunbury.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said the man had suffered a fractured wrist and internal injuries as a result of the collision.
The other driver, a 21-year-old male, was taken to Collie Hospital for observation and was later released.
“They’re both very lucky to be alive,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
“It appears fatigue may have been a factor.
“One was on his way home from work and the other was on his way into work.”
He said it appeared one of the vehicles had veered onto the wrong side of the road.
Senior Sergeant Soutar thanked the witnesses who assisted at the scene, as well as the emergency response crews who attended.
