The Doctor and the Butcher captivate their audience
On October 25, Dr Coert Erasmus and butcher Kim Batt travelled from Boddington as special guests at The Dr and The Butcher event at the West Arthur CRC in Darkan as part of Mental Health Week.
Forty-five keen folk showed up ready to listen and learn.
Coert shared his professional experiences of working with folk in rural areas suffering from depression and gave his advice about what we can do about it.
Following this, Kim showed us great tricks on how to bone out a sheep and make the most of every cut.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the event, taking home great practical messages about keeping mentally healthy – there was particular attention paid to the need for regular physical activity and there are also sure to be some more fancy cuts of sheep meat being done around the area now.
Remembrance Day service
The West Arthur Remembrance Day Service will be held on November 11.
It will start at 10.50am with a march from the shire office, with the main service at 11am at the West Arthur War Memorial.
It will be hosted by the Darkan RSL.
This service also includes the unveiling of steel sculptures recognising the Armistice, proudly supported by the Shire of West Arthur and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18).
Fruit fly baiting
Starting on November 5. Please notify the shire if you do not want your trees baited or if you’ve planted any new fruit trees.
If you have any concerns, queries or special arrangements, for example locked gates or pets, contact the shire office prior to the start of baiting.
The program the shire is using is a fruit fly baiting method not a spraying method.
It doesn’t involve spraying the entire tree and all of the fruit, and only requires one squirt onto the tree.
The female fly is then attracted to the high protein liquid.
If people see any fruit flies please contact the shire.
Weekly radio call-ups
Once a week call-up starts on November 5 at 7.10am.
