A 21-year-old man has been fined $2000 and banned from driving for three months after causing a crash that left a 56-year-old man in hospital with a fractured hand, sternum and ribs.
Jaxon Sieradzki pleaded guilty to one charge of careless driving causing bodily harm in the Collie Magistrates Court on November 21, in relation to the crash that took place at 5.46am on October 15 on the Coalfields HIghway in Allanson.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Greg Ward told the court Sieradzki was driving home after a 12-hour night shift when he fell asleep behind the wheel.
Sergeant Ward said Sieradzki then veered onto the opposite side of the road and collided head-on with another vehicle while travelling at 100km/h.

He said drug and alcohol tests showed Sieradzki was not under the influence at the time of the crash.
The court also heard Sieradzki had made contact with the victim to apologise for the crash, and had offered to help him during his recovery.
Magistrate Evan Shackleton imposed a $2000 fine and three-months disqualification, but declined to grant a spent conviction.
