Two Collie residents have been charged over a burglary at a Venn Street home on Sunday night.
Collie Police Acting Senior Sergeant Terry Townsend said police had charged a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman with possessing stolen property.
He said police had received a report of a burglary at the address overnight between January 20 and 21 with a significant amount of property, including jewelry, taken.
He also said the alleged offenders had caused significant damage inside the property during the burglary.
As a result of their investigation, police executed a search warrant at a property where ‘a lot of property’ was recovered.
Sergeant Townsend said police were still continuing their investigation, after credit cards that had been stolen were allegedly used to purchase items online.
Police also charged a 40-year-old Collie man after he was allegedly caught with cannabis in Woolworths on Tuesday afternoon.
Sergeant Townsend said police were at the supermarket looking for someone else when they saw the man acting suspiciously and attempting to flee the area.
A subsequent search of his pockets allegedly turned up a small quantity of cannabis leaves.
Sergeant Townsend also urged residents to be mindful about leaving valuables in cars after a number of thefts from vehicles over the past week.
“Try not to leave anything valuable, like wallets or phones, in your car because there has been a lot of thefts of late,” he said.
“It’s not concentrated to one area either, so don’t give thieves the opportunity.”
On January 17, a vehicle on Wittenoom Street had a briefcase and laptop stolen while a handbag and purse was stolen from a vehicle on Coombes Street.
Two days later a wallet with credit cards inside was taken from a vehicle in Raymond Street. All three vehicles were locked, with offenders smashing windows to gain entry.
Police are also looking for information about a number of crimes that occurred over the past two weeks.
Sometime between January 14 and 16, two security cameras were stolen from the Collie Garden Centre on Harvey Street.
On the morning of January 17, a vehicle allegedly struck the doors of the ice fridge at the Caltex service station, causing ‘a reasonable amount’ of damage.
That same day, two off-road motorcycles were stolen from a shipping container at a property on Hull Road. Sergeant Townsend said offenders had cut through a padlock to gain entry.
