A fire believed to have been deliberately lit burnt parts of the Collie Golf Course last night, February 17.
Collie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service captain Shane Hickson said the suspicious fire started just before 9pm and was burning at the Northern end of the course - close to where the old caravan park used to be.
“It wasn’t a huge fire but there was a lot of paperbark in there (golf course) – so it was dropping a lot of ash,” he said.
Senior Sargent Soutar said the fire burnt approximately 20 metres.
Mr Hickson said his crew luckily didn't take long to get the blaze under control as the cooler weather and light wind conditions worked in their favour.
The cause as to what started the fire is undetermined and will be investigated further.
Senior Sargent Soutar said if there were any witnesses to the fire to please contact Collie Police on 9734 6333.
