New Elders in Darkan
A large crowd gathered at the official opening of the new Elders Branch in Darkan last week. Darkan local Jake Putland hosted the evening and introduced Elders WA general manager James Cornish who congratulated the young team on the opening. Jake and Lauren will be joined in the shop by livestock agent Wayne Peake, and agronomist, Wade Longmuir.
Jigsaw Fun
Do you love doing jigsaws? Well come along to the West Arthur CRC for our first Jigsaw Group session on Friday March 29 at 9am. They will have large format jigsaws with lots of room to spread out and also morning tea included for free. Suitable for all ages.
Works and Projects
Maintenance graders will be working in the south east and south west areas of the Shire. Works planned for this fortnight include gravel sheeting on Gorn Road and re-construction works on Moodiarrup Changerrup Road. Staff are building a new storage shed in the Shire Depot. The solar panels for the West Arthur Health and Resource Centre and the Darkan Sport and Community Centre were installed last week. The project was funded by the Stronger Communities Program and the shire.
Picnic Race Day
The annual Quindanning Picnic Race Day is on Easter Saturday April 20. There will be gymkhana and barrel races, horse and pony races. Licensed bar and live music at night. Visit quindanningracces.com.au for more.
Darkan Golf Club AGM
There will be a Special General Meeting for the Darkan Golf Club on Tuesday April 2 at 7.30 pm at the Darkan Sport and Community Centre.
Football in Darkan
The first of the Darkan home football games will be on Sunday April 27.
Oppy Shop Notes
The Oppy Shop takings for February came to $400 which was sent to Leukaemia Foundation WA. The Shop tries to send to Charities that are relevant to members of The West Arthur community and that they have found do not spend a large amount on administration fees. March proceeds will be going to Cancer Council WA.
Moodiarrup Dance
The next dance at the Moodiarrup Hall will be on Saturday March 30 at 8pm. The band is Campfire Country and entry is $10. Bring a plate of supper to share. Contact Janette Whitaker on 9863 1056 for more details.
Money Week Workshop
As part of Global Money Week (25-29 March 2019) the West Arthur CRC will host a money-themed workshop on Tuesday March 26 at 3.15. Kids are invited to make piggy banks and learn about money and saving. Afternoon tea provided. Please RSVP by noon Fri 22 March on 9736 2000.
World's Greatest Shave
All welcome to the Darkan Sports Club on Saturday March 30 for the World's Greatest Shave and help raise moeny to fight leukaemia. Special guest will be Jack Boyle who is celebrating one year post transplant from his own fight with leukaemia. Event starts at 5.30pm with $15 meals for adults and $5 for kids served from 6.30pm. Followed by an auction later in the night.
