Darkan Bowling Club Pennants Finals: The semi-final was played on March 24 with Darkan playing Katanning and Moodiarrup playing Kojonup Gold. Darkan won 106-39 and Moodiarrup won by 9 shots setting up the Darkan v Moodiarrup grand final on Sunday, which Darkan won 90-48.
Works and Projects: Maintenance graders will be working in the north-east and north-west areas of the Shire. Works planned for this fortnight include gravel sheeting on various sections of roads within the Shire, including Morrell, Jackson and Old Collie roads.
Council Meeting Notes: Council welcomed Judy Cooper and Neil Morrell as invited guests to the Ordinary Meeting held March 19. Matters considered included adoption of the budget review, supporting the transition of Kids Central Childcare to Regional Early Education Development INC (REED), fees and charges for Swim Club and the Purple People Show, a new MOU with the CRC for management of the Health and Resource Centre, funding for renovations to Darkan Football oval change rooms, and adoption of the annual compliance return. Betty Brown Historical Centre: The Betty Brown Historical Centre has been coming along in leaps and bounds now that the room has been renovated. The project manager is now looking for a few additional items and info. If you have any of the following please contact Kerryn Chia on 0429 631 044 or chia@wn.com.au. Items or info related to Junior Farmers group - eg. photos of the Achievement days, dresses worn to the Junior Farmers balls or other balls held prior to Junior Farmers; items/info related to Women's Land Army; spinning wheel or wool dyeing products; info related to women working during the war; info related to the Aboriginal members of the Darkan/West Arthur community; any other items or info you would be interested in donating to the museum.
Darkan Playgroup: The next meeting is April 8 from 9.30-11.30am. The casual fees are $5 per family or you can purchase annual membership. Children from 0-5 welcome with their mums, dads, grandparents or carers. They have a craft activity each time and regular outings to local attractions such as Lake Towerrinning, Hillman Rock and local parks and playgrounds. The group meets up at Kids Central in Darkan.
