THE story of Michelle Payne's Melbourne Cup triumph is coming full circle with Ballarat to host the regional premiere of the heartwarming story on September 15.
The Regent Cinema has been chosen to debut the movie Ride Like A Girl, which is directed by award-winning actress Rachel Griffiths and will be released nationally on September 26.
Michelle Payne, her brother - and star of the movie - Stevie Payne and film producer Richard Keddie will be at the premiere which will be held at 2.15pm at the Lydiard Street cinema.
Ballarat residents wishing to be among the first the see the film can purchase one of just 700 tickets which will be made available for just $15.
Teresa Palmer takes on the role of Michelle Payne alongside Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton and Magda Szubanski.
Ballarat Mayor Samantha McIntosh said it was an extraordinary moment for the city to celebrate.
"The movie trailer is the biggest post of the year for the City of Ballarat, reaching 87,000 people via social media channels," Cr McIntosh said.
"This certainly reflects the interest in the movie, which was partly filmed in Ballarat with residents employed as 'extras', Cr McIntosh said.
"The City is delighted to be co-hosting the premiere in Ballarat with Transmission films."
