Community members are being asked to keep their eyes peeled and ears open after one of the town's few public defibrillators was stolen this week.
The Collie Cycle Club was allegedly broken and the unknown culprits smashed the front of the glass cabinet and took the medical device.
Collie Cycle Club secretary and treasurer Jamie Moloney said he discovered the break in on Tuesday afternoon.
"We have it for community use," he said.
"If someone has a heart attack and needs it, someone can just grab it from our club.
"It's not just for our members.
"They haven't just stolen a bike or some club items.
"The bottom line is what's been stolen could cost someone their life."
A defibrillator is a device that uses electricity to re-start the heart or shock it back into its correct rhythm and is used when someone has a sudden cardiac arrest.
Despite reporting the theft to police, Mr Moloney said he wasn't confident the culprits will return the defibrillator.
"I can't see any point or thought process to this, it's just pure vandalism," he said.
"We're certainly not in a position to replace it.
"They can cost between $2000 and $3000 - that's just not feasible for us right now."
In Collie, there are still 17 public defibrillators, including those at the St John Ambulance Depot, Roche Park and Bendigo Bank.
Following the break-in and police report, Mr Moloney took to Facebook in an effort to find the stolen defibrillator.
Collie Facebook users were in shock, expressing their disbelief and anger at the situation.
"Why? Someone will know who took it, someone will know who's now got it,' Facebook user Deb Franks said.
"You need to speak up.
"This is beyond stupidity, this could cost someone their lives."
